MetaMask, a cryptocurrency wallet for the Ethereum blockchain, has teamed up with Blockaid, a Web3 security firm, to introduce a “privacy-preserving module” aimed at enhancing security for its users.
This collaboration is set to provide MetaMask’s over 30 million users with advanced security alerts to protect against threats such as phishing, scams, and hacks across multiple blockchain networks, including Ethereum, Bitcoin, BNB Chain, Solana, Arbitrum, Polygon, and Avalanche.
The partnership, announced on Feb. 20, will enable MetaMask users to receive automatic security alerts about potentially malicious transactions. The new security feature is now integrated by default in both the MetaMask extension and mobile app.
The privacy-preserving module developed by MetaMask and Blockaid simulates transactions without the need to share every transaction and signature request with external parties, thus maintaining user privacy. Blockaid’s tools have already been integrated across various wallets and decentralized applications, including OpenSea, Zerion, and Rainbow.
In addition to the security enhancements, MetaMask reported a significant increase in its user base, with a 55% rise in monthly active users.
