Australia Zoo, a wildlife conservatory related to the family of noted conservationist Steve Irwin, has announced a non-fungible token (NFT) series on the green blockchain Algorand to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its Wildlife Warriors conservation project.

- Created in partnership with Australia-based Meadow Labs, the NFTs will be utility-driven, randomly generated images based on an Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors animal.
- Algorand recently announced it is 100% carbon negative and charges minimal gas and transaction fees which are then converted into carbon credits.
- The NFT series will also be available for purchase using cash via the on-ramping platform MoonPay.
- “This green chain and new technology allow us a new avenue to continue to fight for the protection of our wildlife and wild places,” Robert Irwin, son of the late Steve Irwin, said in a statement.
- Wildlife Warriors was established in 2002 by Steve Irwin, nicknamed “The Crocodile Hunter,” and his wife Terri Irwin as a way to engage “caring people” through conservation efforts “in the protection of injured, threatened or endangered wildlife.”
- Details on the release date for the NFT series will be made public in the coming weeks.
