The number of newly-registered Ethereum Name Service (ENS) addresses in September reached a monthly all-time high of 427,325 at the time of publication, despite total NFT trading volume falling 97% from January when sales peaked, according to data from Dune Analytics, a crypto analysis site.

- As of Friday 12 pm Hong Kong time, a total of 2.59 million ENS addresses had been created, Dune Analytics data showed.
- Ethereum Name Service is a protocol to reduce lengthy address strings to readable phrases ending in “.eth”. The name itself is an NFT and can be traded on marketplaces like OpenSea.
- ENS once surpassed the popular Bored Ape NFT series and ranked first in trading volume on OpenSea in September.
- Well-known brand names are hot property. “Toyota.eth” was sold at 20 ETH (US$26,556) in September, about the same price as a baseline Toyota Camry.
- In September, Chain chief executive officer Deepak Thapliyal said the blockchain infrastructure firm bought “patriots.eth” for 75 ETH (worth over US$99,000 at the time) after sponsoring the New England Patriots team in the National Football League (NFL).
