An Australian computer scientist has become the latest person to claim to have developed Bitcoin, an assertion he hopes might bring him a £4 billion (US$5.6 billion) windfall.
Craig Wright, who claims to have invented Bitcoin, and the identity behind the Satoshi Nakamoto pseudonym, has filed a lawsuit in a UK court to retrieve a total of 111,000 Bitcoins. But his claims have been widely dismissed.
According to reports, Wright is asking the court to compel 16 software developers from networks Bitcoin Satoshi Vision, Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Core and Bitcoin Cash ABC to give him access to the Bitcoin.
The developers have wallet addresses in Europe, the U.S., Australia, Japan and New Zealand.
Several defendants named in the lawsuit have dismissed Wright’s claim as “bogus.” They said he had not produced sufficient evidence to prove that he had indeed developed the world’s biggest cryptocurrency.
Wright was permitted to file a lawsuit against digital currency website Bitcoin.org’s publisher, Cobra, in April, accusing it of copyright infringement.
