Football giant Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) today announced a multi-year partnership agreement with Hong Kong-based cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com that will see the exchange become the Parisian club’s official cryptocurrency platform partner.
- PSG competes in Ligue 1, the top division of French football, and its star-studded team includes forwards Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar. The deal is the latest in the club’s forays into cryptocurrency. Last month, the club made headlines for including its $PSG Fan Tokens in the welcome package for its star Messi.
- According to Crypto.com, the deal includes the release of exclusive non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on its NFT platform. A significant portion of the sponsorship fee will be paid using the cryptocurrency token CRO, Crypto.com said.
- “Our mission since day one has been to accelerate the world’s transition to cryptocurrency. We do so by finding the best partners in the world, and Paris Saint-Germain is second to none,” said Crypto.com co-founder and CEO Kris Marszalek. “Between the brand visibility, stadium and team access, and collaborative development of NFTs, I have no doubt we’ll create new and exciting experiences for football fans around the world.”
- Founded in 2016, Crypto.com has been on a sports sponsorship spree in recent months, partnering with Formula 1, F1 team Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One, NHL team Montreal Canadiens, sports league Lega Serie A and martial arts company UFC.
