Regal, a subsidiary of Cineworld Group, has partnered with digital payments network Flexa to allow customers to pay for movie tickets, popcorn and more with cryptocurrencies in its theaters.
- The firm will accept cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Dogecoin, stablecoins such as Dai, USD Coin and Gemini Dollar, as well as digital tokens like LINK and ATOM, among others. Regal operates nearly 7,000 screens in more than 500 theaters across the U.S.
- Flexa is working with Regal to enable better payments and expand integration across multiple assets and protocols, including the Lightning Network, a press release said. Flexa’s guaranteed settlement, flexible integration options, fraud-proof architecture, and extensive currency and payment options can address the challenges currently hindering mass adoption of digital assets, it added.
- Regal’s announcement comes within weeks of its rival AMC Theatres enabling crypto payments for its theater chain. So far, AMC has started accepting Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, Dogecoin and Shiba Inu for payments.
