Web3’s biggest power up: casual games

Web3 gaming could see a huge turn in growth in 2023. Is there potential for this industry to match the growth and performance of the mainstream video game industry?

Welcome to The Daily Forkast – February 22, 2023 – presented by Joel Flynn.

From its humble beginnings in Atari’s arcade hit Pong in the 1970s to massive multiplayer games today in the likes of Grand Theft Auto Online and Fortnite, video games have come a long way in the last 50 years.

But blockchain hasn’t been able to figure out video games so far. For example, video game publisher Rockstar Games has made nearly US$8 billion out of GTA V since 2013, while the biggest game to date on blockchain has been Axie Infinity. While Axie Infinity was huge at the peak of its popularity, it hasn’t been able to replicate the successes seen in AAA titles.

2023 could be a pivotal year for casual games in the blockchain and web3 spaces, as more web3 game developers try and attract millions of people still not using the Blockchain. We’ll have more on that story in this episode of The Daily Forkast.
