Predictions for 2022
Collectibles was just the beginning of NFTs
“The promise of NFTs (non-fungible tokens) is so much more than just collectibles. So I predict in 2022 — now that users are expecting more than just the collectibility of NFTs in order to participate in a community or NFT ecosystem — we’re going to see all kinds of innovation. We’re already seeing it towards the tail end of 2021, and that’ll just continue and really blow up in 2022.”
Investors flock to play-to-earn and the metaverse
“It takes forever to build something sustainable in the metaverse. Projects like Decentraland, Sandbox — they’ve been doing this since at least 2018, maybe even a little earlier…. And I think we will see the fruits of their labor really start to shine in 2022. You’ll see — and you’re seeing it already — more investors take that leap into the metaverse, where they’re not afraid to go invest in a particular piece of land, whereas before it may have just been investing in a collectible. The on-ramp to get people into the metaverse is going to be a lot more seamless.”
DapperLabs will bring the next wave of sports enthusiasts
“I’m very interested to see what DapperLabs comes out with in 2022. We know they’ve got the partnership with the National Football League for their NFL Moments to come out on the Flow blockchain. That’s going to be outstanding. It’s going to introduce NFTs to an entirely new audience. It was last year at this time that Dapper, with NBA Top Shot, brought all kinds of new users in with NBA Top Shot. They’re going to have another round of that new user influx coming in 2022.
