LINE, Japan’s dominant mobile chatting app, on Wednesday officially launched its non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace LINE NFT through its Osaka-based blockchain subsidiary LVC.

  • Users can purchase and trade NFTs on the platform and store them on the LINE BITMAX Wallet, which can be accessed via LINE messaging app accounts.
  • About 40,000 NFTs will be offered on the platform during the launch, including content from Japan’s major entertainment agency Yoshimoto Kogyo, popular anime series Mobile Police Patlabor and LINE’s character Betakkuma.
  • The communication app has over 90 million users in Japan.
  • LINE NEXT, LINE’s U.S.-based venture for expanding the NFT ecosystem, is planning to launch a global NFT platform named DOSI by July, which will support companies and creators to build markets and create communities.
  • LINE is owned by a joint venture involving South Korean internet giant Naver and Japan’s SoftBank.
