To mark the release of the third installment in the latest Spider-Man trilogy, theater giant AMC and Sony Pictures are offering 86,000 non-fungible tokens for fans who pre-order tickets to the film, which opens on Dec. 16, AMC CEO Adam Aron announced via Twitter.
- Amid rising concerns of the environmental impact of NFTs minted on Ethereum, the 100 different Spider-Man NFTs will be available through the more environmentally friendly Wax Blockchain once pre-orders launch on Nov. 29.
- The move follows from AMC, the largest movie theater chain in the U.S., announcing earlier this month it will begin accepting a range of cryptocurrencies as payment: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin and Dogecoin, with plans to add Shiba Inu soon.
- Following in AMC’s footsteps, rival theater chain, Regal, also announced last week it would also be accepting payment in cryptocurrency for its 500-plus theaters across the U.S. It will be accepting the same list of tokens as AMC, but with the addition of Dai, USD Coin and Gemini Dollar.
