South Korea’s Sungkyunkwan University will issue non-fungible token (NFT) certificates to three students who won in-school competitions at the institution’s upcoming online graduation ceremony on Wednesday.
- Sungkyunkwan University said NFT certificates can be used any time as official proof of graduation without the risks of losing the original or fear of forged copies.
- South Korean conglomerate Samsung joined the university’s foundation as a main partner and sponsor in 1996, renewing a previous partnership from the ‘60s and ‘70s.
- South Korean universities, such as Soongsil and Chung-Ang University, have recently partnered with local blockchain developers for incorporating NFT and metaverse technologies into their graduation services.
- Sungkyunkwan University will adopt blockchain technology to issue other kinds of certificates as part of its digital transformation, local media reported.
