Salesforce and Google Cloud are connecting their platforms through the Model Context Protocol at Dreamforce 2026, with Tableau enforcing governance at query time. The infrastructure layer is becoming a utility.

Four major vendors shipped standalone agent governance products within weeks. The pattern points to something bigger than feature announcements.

OpenAI's usage grew 60-fold in under a year. The reliability layer underneath the agent stack just became a twelve-billion-dollar bet.

xAI and Meta both delivered persistent cloud computers for AI agents within one month — same infrastructure category, opposite security architectures. The VM-per-agent pattern is now a category, and the governance question underneath it is the real story.

The industry's largest enterprise platform has re-engineered governance from a bolt-on compliance layer into the core runtime of the agentic enterprise. For builders, the question is no longer whether to govern agents — it's how deeply governance shapes the architecture.
