The Indian police unit in Firozabad city in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh has launched an online complaint portal powered by Ethereum scaler Polygon.

- The pilot portal, policecomplaintonblockchain.in, leverages blockchain technology’s immutability, which means complaints cannot be tampered with or deleted by either the police department or the complainant.
- “This was necessary for transparency,” Ashish Tiwari, a senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Firozabad Police, said in a Twitter post.
- Grievances can be filed from any location and will be forwarded to the relevant police jurisdictions, according to the portal’s web page.
- “We grow up hearing about so many such cases wherein due to some corruption in a local police department, victims (mostly of rapes) are not even able to register complaint or complaints being manipulated. This could be a game-changer in ensuring right to justice,” Polygon cofounder Sandeep Nailwal said.
- The country’s finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman expects blockchain use in India to rise by about 46% in the next few years.
