A day after winning election to be New York City’s next mayor, Eric Adams told an interviewer he wanted to “look at what’s preventing the growth of Bitcoins and cryptocurrency in our city.”
- Adams was asked by Bloomberg Radio how he will make New York City a crypto friendly city and he responded, “I’ve met with the mayor of Miami and we’re going to have a friendly competition. He has a Miami coin that is doing very well and we’re going to look in the direction to carry that out.”
- Miami mayor Francis Suarez is a crypto-friendly Republican who has said that he wants his city to become a cryptocurrency hub. He said he eventually hopes to fund the city’s activities through mining and issuing MiamiCoin, which launched in August, instead of taxes.
- Adams has been Brooklyn borough president since 2013 and also in the post-election interview said that as mayor he will aim to build a pipeline of diverse young people who understand crypto to fill jobs in the industry.
