Pseudonymous blockchain sleuth ZachXBT has successfully recovered the majority of funds from a stolen DeGods non-fungible token (NFT), which was taken in a phishing scam in May 2023.

The NFT, which sold for 99 Ether (approximately US$177,000 at the time of theft) has been returned to its rightful owner.

ZachXBT, known for his work in uncovering crypto crimes on X (formerly Twitter), says he still plans to “stop all public goods work.”

The recovery of the DeGods #3251 NFT was the result of a nine-month investigation by ZachXBT, who shared the news with his over half a million X followers on Saturday. The victim had reached out to the online detective for help shortly after the theft, leading to the lengthy process of tracking the stolen funds.

Originally launched on Solana, DeGods is an Ethereum-based NFT collection with almost US$170 million in all-time sales, according to CryptoSlam data.

DeGods was once Solana’s all-time sales leader before migrating to the Ethereum blockchain last April.
