Australian consumers can use cryptocurrency to pay for gasoline and other goods — including Krispy Kreme donuts — at 175 OTR service stations through a partnership with Crypto.com and payment terminal provider DataMesh Group Pty Ltd.

- The service stations allow Crypto.com users to scan a QR code on a DataMesh payment terminal that will link to a Crypto.com wallet.
- After the user selects the type of cryptocurrency they would like to use, the payment is then settled instantly to the merchant in Australian dollars.
- This option is currently only available in Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia, but Peregrine Corp., the owner of OTR, plans to roll the feature out to another 250 locations across the country, including Krispy Kreme stores in SA and the Northern Territory.
- “The OTR story is about giving customers choice and making life easy. The decision to offer cryptocurrency payments is centered around this story – by offering our customers convenience in how they pay, whether it be cash, card or crypto,” said Peregrine executive chairman Yasser Shahin in a statement.
- Australian research firm Roy Morgan said that over 1 million Australians owned at least one type of cryptocurrency as of April 2022.
