Taiwanese laptop maker Asus has launched a non-fungible token (NFT) platform, marking its first attempt to venture into the burgeoning Web 3.0 industry, the company announced on Tuesday.

- Asus launched Art Black hole on Tuesday, a platform for Ethereum-minted NFTs under its new Web3 arm, Asus Metaverse Inc.
- The new platform, powered by Asus’ cloud computing and artificial intelligence capabilities, is currently only open to invited artists to list their NFTs, an Asus spokesperson told Forkast via phone call.
- Collectors can purchase NFT artworks in New Taiwan dollars, the spokesperson said.
- The platform does not support secondary trading, but a secondary market “will launch soon,” the company said on its website.
- “Asus pays close attention to the latest developments of emerging industries, and we’re particularly drawn by the potential of the Web3 industry,” Joe Hsieh, chief operating officer of Asus, said in a statement shared with Forkast.
- Asus joins fellow Taiwanese tech firms, Apple iPhone maker Foxconn and its hardware subsidiary Ennoconn Corporation, in entering the metaverse.
